Leading Chesterfield manufacturing business, CBE+, is celebrating 4 years since they acquired the first of 4 businesses that have since merged to create the group they are today.
Marie Cooper, CEO, and Chris Brown, Technical Director, acquired BG Engineering in April 2017. It became the first of several acquisitions which went on to be combined into a unique business, offering an integrated supply chain from a single location.
The acquisition of BG was shortly followed by Nitec UK Ltd and Spire Laboratories in August 2017, and then Pentag Gears and Oilfield Equipment in May 2018. Following a full business integration and relocation to Enterprise Drive, the group rebranded as CBE+ in July 2019.
The idea for the group was inspired by synergy customers of both BG Engineering and Nitec UK, who were using the services of both businesses, based only one mile apart from each other, yet sending and receiving the goods across the country twice per individual order.
Marie recognised an opportunity to simplify supply chains, cut lead times and become the supplier of choice for customers of both businesses.
Fast forward to 2021 and the business has not only survived the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve actually expanded. They have grown from seven market sectors to fifteen, and achieved AS9100, the recognised quality management system which enables CBE+ to serve the aerospace industry. They have also relocated three out of the four businesses to one location with the fourth well underway. This was not Marie’s first taste of success. Prior to her CBE+ days, Marie was Finance Director and Shareholder of President Engineering Group Ltd and was part of the team that increased the workforce by a third, grew turnover by 40% and increased international sales by 37%. She plans to do no less at CBE+.

‘The last four years have been quite a journey, but Chesterfield has proved to be a fantastic, central location for our company, and all the investment we’ve made in our business units continues to take production of the groups capabilities to a new level. We have enhanced and expanded our services to existing and new clients both in the UK and overseas. It is still early days for CBE+, and we still have a long way to go, but what we have achieved so far has been a great achievement.’
