Electroless Nickel Plating Explained by a Technical Expert

At Capabilities Beyond Engineering, we pride ourselves on our ENP capabilities, delivering high-quality, consistent coatings even on the most complex components.

Our Marketing Executive, Katie Andrews, recently sat down with Steve Whitehead, Electroless Nickel Plating (ENP) Technical Manager at CBE+, to find out more about this specialist process, where it’s used, and why customers choose Capabilities Beyond Engineering.

What is ENP?

Steve explained that ENP is a chemical process that deposits a nickel-phosphorus alloy onto a component without the need for electricity. This produces a uniform coating, including on internal surfaces and intricate shapes that traditional plating can struggle to cover.

Where is it used?

ENP is widely applied in aerospace, oil & gas, automotive, and renewable industries. It provides excellent wear resistance, corrosion protection, and enhanced surface properties, making it essential for components operating in challenging environments.

Why choose Capabilities Beyond Engineering?

Steve highlighted that what sets us apart is our willingness to take on ENP challenges other businesses won’t. Sometimes this even means designing and building bespoke tanks for unique projects. Our team also brings unmatched expertise, with individuals who have up to 30 years’ experience working solely in ENP. This combination of skill, creativity, and problem-solving ensures we can deliver solutions others can’t.
